To be successful, search and rescue teams require continuous training and testing.
Team Capabilities
Our teams have the following capabilities:
- K-9, Tracking, Trailing, and Air Scenting Teams for live or deceased persons or pets.
- High-angle rope rescue teams: cliffs, mountains, glaciers, crevasses, swift water.
- Suspect identification in connection with kidnappings, rapes, homicides,
and other crimes against people or pets.
- Runaway children location.
- Urban disaster responses-- exceeds FEMAs training requirements for
urban disaster K-9 services.

Qualifications of Handlers
Our handlers must comply with the following:
- Have preferably a minimum of two years of experience in search and rescue before interview.
- Be trained in search and rescue and pass I.K.9.S.A.R.S. SAR (Search & Rescue) and I.K.9.S.A.R.S. mountain rescue standards.
- Meets or exceeds national standards.
- Have First Aid and CPR training and certification.
- Pass a background check.
- Be a nonsmoker.
- Pass national ski patrol standards for avalanche rescue.
- Attend 18 hour water rescue course.
- Be cross-trained in critical incident stress management and debriefing.
- Be trained in SAR coordination and ICS (Incident Command Systems).
- Possess own rescue gear and passport to travel internationally.
